got down and had a look round it was
awful as the trench was full of dead
and wounded and No Mans Land was
Absolutely covered with dead and
Wounded I thought what a terrible
Price to Pay for a Bit of trench or
Ground and we were kept very busy
all night dressing the Wounded and
getting Waterbottles from the dead
and giving to the Wounded for Water
was Heartbreaking it was easy now
to go out there and see to them as the
Firing had died right away only a
Stray Bullet now and again went through
the Air and it was a very hot night
May the 26th 1915 and I done a very silly
thing I gave my own Water away to one
of the wounded not thinking about my
self the Fellows who were badly hit
were going mad for Water so I might
say they kept us busy but the sight
of some of there Wounds was Awful we
had a very terrible night as about every
2 Hours the Germans sent out a very
large Listening Patrol and as they came
along we thought they were going to
counter attach and take their Line
Back which kept us very busy on the
Fire step anyway I supose they were
wondering wether we were going to
advance Farther on but we Intendin ...
Staying here as we had now Straightened
the Line in this Lectern of Trenches
