got down and had a look round it was

awful as the trench was full of dead

and wounded and No Mans Land was

Absolutely covered with dead and

Wounded I thought what a terrible

Price to Pay for a Bit of trench or

Ground and we were kept very busy

all night dressing the Wounded and

getting Waterbottles from the dead

and giving to  the Wounded for Water

was Heartbreaking it was easy now

to go out there and see to them as the

Firing had died right away only a

Stray Bullet now and again went through

the Air and it was a very hot night

May the 26th 1915 and I done a very silly

thing I gave my own Water away to one

of the wounded not thinking about my

self the Fellows who were badly hit

were going mad for Water so I might

say they kept us busy but the sight

of some of there Wounds was Awful we

had a very terrible night as about every

2 Hours the Germans sent out a very

large Listening Patrol and as they came

along we thought they were going to

counter attach and take their Line

Back which kept us very busy on the

Fire step anyway I supose they were

wondering wether we were going to

advance Farther on but we Intendin ... 

Staying here as we had now Straightened

the Line in this Lectern of Trenches
