Battle of Loos
I duly arrived back in France after 4 Glorious
days and went Straight back to the Trenches from
which I had come but only for a short time and
we then went back to Neux Les Mines a
Small mining town about 5 miles form the Line
where we could get a Lovely Shower Bath in
the Miners Baths and a nice clean change
and have our clothes Baked to kill the
Vermin or rather Put them to sleep until
you got them on your Back again and then
they would come too again or Revie they
seemed to come out of a different Stable
to the Ones you had often Seen as children
about 4 times the size Like Black Beetles
We soon had orders for the Line again and
went up a Little more to the right were we
could see Loos in Front of us and these were
some very nice Trenches well made and they
called it Quality St Trenches how it got
its name I dont no but it was a Proper
Nursing Home here as There was hardly a Shot
fired here day or night on Either side as
we were not asking of Trouble now as we were
Preparing for the defences for the Battle of
Loos so we did not mind as there were
Plenty of working Partys to get on with
digging Trenches Etc we had a very Tiresome
job one night up here after that Fritz
got a bit Sprightful and starting shelling
us a bit more regularly as he began to see
our Preparations for the Battle on this Time
in the Line we were here in the Trenches
for 6 Weeks before getting relieved the
