each as we were getting near the Front Line
now after doing about 1 1/2 miles we were getting
a Bit dry and knocked out so we had a
drop of tea and what a slouch the cook
had put salt in it instead of sugar
that properly done it we could not take it back
to the village as the cook would rumble we
had been sneaking a drop and we new knew if we
took it up the line another 1/2 mile or so we
would have for certain to bring it back again
so what was we to do anyway we decided to
go back to the village after throwing it
away as we were not giving it another joy
ride knowing it would be thrown away
so they made more tea in the meantime
they were getting a bit windy our company
were what had happened to there tea so
they phoned to the village to see whether
we were alive and we eventually arrived
back to the line about 9.pm with our tea
in time for supper. I managed to get another
tiresome job on this night it happened that
the Germans had been shelling the line
pretty heavy all day and consequently they
broke a lot of the barbed wire entanglements
in front of our line and the engineers had
come up to put more up and they wanted
about a dozen men as covering party for
them while they repaired it so I was one
of the dozen as usual I was generally
made favorite when a job like this wanted
doing so we all had to go out to no mans
land with a Sergeant in charge and lay
there with our rifles ready in case the
