we rounded about 50 of them up and sent

them behind the Line as Prisoners thats

if they got Back safe we were in for some

fine Fun now as the Germans were now

trying to get us out and as quick as the chap

behind could Load our Rifles we were

Blazing away and knocking the German down

like Nine Pins and the fellows were

taking the nails out of the Bombs and

we were Slinging these as well they

were a very dangerous bomb the first ones

Issued as soon as the nail was taken out

you had to get rid of them very Quickly

and very often the nail fell out and caused

casualtys it was close by here were a

fellow from another Regt won the V.C.

as he stood on the Parapet fully

Exposed and Slinging bombs which

held the Germans up from taking our

trench as it was ours now anyway ot

was getting it up as a bad job and the

Guns got Quieter and the same with

the rifle fire as there was always a

Lull in the firing just as it was

getting Dark on Both sides unless

there was a big Stunt coming off I

think the Idea was getting the supplys

up the Line and as Food and Amunition

and I got releived from the fire step

by another Fellow so I had been firing

at the Germans and Bomb Throwing

since we took the trench but when I
