salute the Mayor and alderman of Battersea

down Latchmere Road on to the Dreary

March to St Albans but we had Plenty of

Life on the Roads we halted in Hyde Park

and Picked up all the other Brigades of the

London Regts comprising the 47th Division.

From there we marched off up the Edgmere Rd

and we had a Proper Royal Time on the Route

as all the Busses came Passed us the Passengers

showered money and all there Cigarettes at us

and all Greengrocers Shops Put out Baskets

of apples and oranges. Plums for us to help

ourselves to as the War had only been on

about a week now the people of London

were mad with Excitement - I suppose they

thought we were going straight out to

France anyway we continued our march that

night to Edgmere which was quite far

enough too with our full marching order

120 Rounds ammo full kit Blanket Water

Proof Sheet and all our Small kit So

we pulled up here for the night in a big

field and made Tea and then made

our Shelter the best we could with our

Great coats and Waterproofs anyway we did

not went much rocking wether we had any

cover or not so next morning we

had Breakfast and then Started off

again to St Albans and I dont think

there was more than a dozen men

in the Whole Battalion who fell out

with sore feet although there were 100'

who had blistered feet but the all

Stuck the march Barring about 12 men
