To day being the Anniversary of the Commencer

meant we were all marched to Mandalay

to attend an Intercerious Service. The

reveille sounded as usual at 5 o-clock &

we had breakfast at 6-15- fell in at

6-45 & marched out of Barracks at 7-o-clock

I must say that we had a very interesting

experience we were met by the Burma

Volunteers & the 64th Pioneers Military

band which played. I think I never say

such a lot of colour in my life before.

there were hundreds of Chinese Japanese &

Burmese natives lining the Roads as we

marched down & as these were dressed in

every colour of the rainbow it can be

imagined what a beautiful sight it was.

the Church was simply crowded by all the

Europeans in Mandalay & also a good

quantity of Burmese & whilst the sermon

was in progress the Band was marched

some distance away & played God Save the King
