Aug 4 1915
To day being the Anniversary of the Commencer
meant we were all marched to Mandalay
to attend an Intercerious Service. The
reveille sounded as usual at 5 o-clock &
we had breakfast at 6-15- fell in at
6-45 & marched out of Barracks at 7-o-clock
I must say that we had a very interesting
experience we were met by the Burma
Volunteers & the 64th Pioneers Military
band which played. I think I never say
such a lot of colour in my life before.
there were hundreds of Chinese Japanese &
Burmese natives lining the Roads as we
marched down & as these were dressed in
every colour of the rainbow it can be
imagined what a beautiful sight it was.
the Church was simply crowded by all the
Europeans in Mandalay & also a good
quantity of Burmese & whilst the sermon
was in progress the Band was marched
some distance away & played God Save the King
