Surprising to see the quantity of jewels & precious stones
which are on this figure, there seems to be
thousands of them & at the foot is a great alter
on which is placed fruit flowers vegetables & various
other things intended as offerings to this god.
after leaving this stage we continued our journey to
the top of the hill, at the top is another large pagoda
& in this there is four large Gods, although not as
large as the other one they are very massive figures
these were not quite completed & they were in various
stages of painting & gilding. After looking Round this
part we next went to look over the Landscape I may
say that the hill on which these pagodas stand is the
only hill on what is called the Great plane & standing
on the summitt it is possible to see for miles all ways
& the Country just looks like a great Billiard
table. I may say that it is a curious sight here
in the Early morning to see the Priests. They are all
dressed in long saffron coloured robes & stand at
various places with a great big bowl in there
hands into which the people came & place food
which is supposed to serve them until the next day
