  Up to the Present Mandalay is out of

  bounds so I cannot describe it but

  hope to later on, as yet there is a plague on

  in Mandalay so we are not allowed to go there.

  this place is simply rotten the heat is terrible

  To day it is 108 in the shade & the insects are

  simply a pest. It is impossible to sit or lie for

  five minutes in comfort. It is bad enough during

  the day but by night the insects are terrible. I

  think there is every insect known flying about at

  night & there is no wonder at being provided with

  mosquitoes nets as it would be torture without

  we are now preparing for the wet season

  & if it is as bad as justfie the preperations

  that are being made, then it must be very

  bad. There are being dug deep Gully to carry

  away the water & these are fully five feet

  deep & there are schores of them & if these are

  all filled then it must rain with a Vengence.
