  sun is shining it is fine, but as soon as

  the sun sets it is simply Hell let loose

  untill the sun rises the next day. Then at sunset

  it starts  again & so on for perhaps a week

  until the ground is simply  a swamp. This

  Guard is situated about 1/2 a mile from the camp

  & is a large building in which all the amunition is

  kept. When you are on this Guard you have a

  Rifle in one hand & a big stick in the other as

  snakes are your worst enemies on this guard and

  they are as plentiful as flies & as treacherous as

  the very D---- himself. These are also a large

  quantity of lizards & on a very dark night it feels

  rather creepy to feel these things running over your

  feet, & we are never sorry when the daylight
