clock we had a magnificent send off &

proceeded to a station on the banks of the

Irawaddi River where we were then taken in

tugs across the River on the other side called

Sagaing Shore.

 

Sat Jan 30 1915

 

We then took train again for Myitkyina we

went on through some very wild and desolate

country & saw some very interesting sights the

natives on the Route are very wild and un-

civilized wearing nothing but a dirty Loin cloth &

armed with spears & large knives & bows & arrows

& chiefly living in mud Huts & small houses built

of Bamboo & dried leaves we passed over a very

large gorge which seemed to be thousands of

feet deep when you looked out of the Carriage

windows. It was a very queer sensation as the

Bridge is only a Skeleton on & you just

seemed as if you were flying through space.
