clock we had a magnificent send off &
proceeded to a station on the banks of the
Irawaddi River where we were then taken in
tugs across the River on the other side called
Sagaing Shore.
Sat Jan 30 1915
We then took train again for Myitkyina we
went on through some very wild and desolate
country & saw some very interesting sights the
natives on the Route are very wild and un-
civilized wearing nothing but a dirty Loin cloth &
armed with spears & large knives & bows & arrows
& chiefly living in mud Huts & small houses built
of Bamboo & dried leaves we passed over a very
large gorge which seemed to be thousands of
feet deep when you looked out of the Carriage
windows. It was a very queer sensation as the
Bridge is only a Skeleton on & you just
seemed as if you were flying through space.
