and right Men with Faces blown away

and too Terrible to Mention as I walked

a good way along consoling all the

Wounded that the Stretcher bearers were

getting them away as soon as Possible

which was a Lie as no Bearers could

get near them as when you looked over

the top now there were about a Dozen

of our Men absolutely ablaze with

all there Amunition going off Pop

all round them the Germans must have

been throwing Petrol Bomb at them

it was a sickening sight but I got

very callous I did not seem to take

much notice of it all now it seemed

to me as all these Fellows who were 

Dead were very Lucky and when I saw

a Fellow Die whom I had been watching

for a time I said Lucky chaos hes out

of it fully expecting my turn was to come any

way I tried to get along a bit and I found

about 4 of my chums in one Part who had

not got hit and I said Halo aint you

been knocked out yet Ho you cheeful-

they  said and they said where you been

I said I had to come down there out of

the way of the sight and the Shell

Fire they said you are smothered with

Mustard as the Shells were Lyditi which

when they burnt sent out a Great cloud

of Yellow smoke so I must have been

             very close to some of them I sat

here a little while when a Sergeant came

along with the order to retire as the
