the job Properly by cutting all the Wire

so the Battle of Festabert was a complete

Failure owing to a shortage of Shells we

could see La Basse  from where we were

quite Plain we were close to the Brickfield

where O Leary won his V.C. this morning by

killing about a Dozen Germans in a Dugout

near us it was a terrible sight to see

all the jacks hanging on the Barbed

Wire caught by Machine Gun fire we

watched the stunt in Pretty Deep Trenches

through our Perriscope so after this

we went back to a Place called Lafrill

along side the La Basse canal for

a short Rest to have a Battle and

clean shirts we were here about 4 Days

and needless to say we had some more

Vin Blonk while Wine and Beer and a good

feed but we did not get much sleep here

as we we billeted in a Farm House near

a Pool which was ablolutly full of Frogs

and the Noise the made at night with

their croaking was very Wierd and awful

whilst we were her we had several

Lectures by the Doctor on how to carry

on in the Hot Weather and after the

Lecture by him needless to say I had

to get on the Platform and make a

speech and take off what the Doctor

had said which caused some Great

Fun and the Doctor was a spectator

also some officers and didnt they

Laugh at the way I took the Doctor

off well after this welcome Rest we
