Dugouts were named after the big Stoves
and Trenches Leading out Toward the
German Line were the Different Streets
which you come across walking Down
Oxford St as their were a rare lot of
Trenches Leading out
ofTo the German Linecalled Safe and Listening Post were
we used to go out and here what they
had to Talk about at night and to
Listen to no whether they were under
mining us as if they were you could have
them Plainly there had been no Gas
Attacks of any kind up to now so we
were not Bothered with Gas Masks
or Shrapnell Helmet but the French
Troupe had them here ad they were by
the side of us here this was the End
of the British Lines here and we joined
hands with the French and you could not
wander far in this Part of the Line or
you would soon yet Lost you would find
yourself very near the German Line if
you walked to far down Oxford St
