  My Own Darling Wife

    We are still in the same place
  

  but some of us may probably be moved to

  morrow & in the beginning of next week I 

  Expect we shall all be up in the line.

  We are now busy carrying on the training

  which we were doing in England and

  except for the mud & the huts things are

  much the same as they were there. It is

  rather difficult to get supplies at present

  but we are being well fed & have practically

  everything we want. The men are happy & seem

  rather pleased to be within sound of 

  the guns, knowing that they will soon

  be going nearer. We hear horrible

  accounts of the muds but on the other 

  hand the line appears to be very

  nearly peaceful. I don't expect

  it will be when we get there for we are

  so well fitted with things for

  annoying the enemy that we shall want

  to try them all & I dare say we shall get a

  young bombardment in return. I hear

  the dug outs are very deep & they must 

  be judging by Knox's conflation. I think he

  is fit but he is not much tanned 

  by exposure to the weather. He had

  not had a letter from his wife since 

  he left us but I notice there are

  several for him today some posted as
