petroleum. We were coming from Castelorizo to

Kyrenia. We came along the S. Coast of Cyprus on

account of the weather - the wind was from the North.

Mullia is the usual place to anchor when the weather

is in that direction. We did not stop at Paphos.

After we anchored at Mullia we came out in our boat,

the next day, and we rowed along to Papho to ask for

pratique. We arrived at Mullia in the afternoon -

about one hour before sunset. We saw the Customs

officer, but he could not give us pratique. He

told us to go to Limassol as he could not give us

pratique there. I was in the boat which went to

Paphos. Nobody left the ship at Mullia - there

were five people only on board. When we went to

Rhodes we had six. We never had any petroleum

other than that which I have spoke of. The sand

certainly had no smell of petroleum. There were

no marks on the deck, because we used to fill up

our lamps carefully. When the weather is good

we eat on the deck.

We had only one gun when we left Kyrenia

and 12 cartridges We never had more guns. When

the French sailors came they found only one gun.

We had been at Mullia some 6 or 7 days. We had

it on the sacks of the soap; we put it on them

because we had oiled it. We had oiled it with

petroleum. We cleaned the gun with the rags and threw

the rags away. The gun was rusty. The gun was

found on the sacks of soap. The French sailors

found the gun and the sacks of soap and the

cartridges. The cartridges were kept in a

wooden
