SAVA MICHAEL OF KYRENIA
I am 20 years of age. I am a sailor.
I am son of Michael Sava Captain of Evangelistria,
I left on the 15th November, 1915, on the
Evangelistria as one of the crew. We went to
Rhodes. There were the Captain, 4 sailors, and
Tanayi Sava, the merchant. We discharged our
cargo at Rhodes. It took us 7 or 8 days. We
took about 15 days to unload on account of the bad
weather. We had a full cargo of olive refuse - no
sand as ballast. we remained at Rhodes until the
weather became better. We put in the ship 40 sacks
of soap and shingle mixed with sand from the beach.
We had nothing else. We went to Castelorizo. It
too kus one day to get there. I cannot remember
the date. I can read or write. We had a strong
wind but fair weather from Rhodes to Catelorizo.
We went there because of the weather. We stayed
there 7 or 8 days. The French in occupation came
and looked at the ship - four or five of them -
they were the Customs. They went all over it.
They examined it and saw what we had on board - only
40 sacks of soap - and shingle and sand. We only
had one bottle of paraffin for our lanterns - we
only had one bottle when we left Kyrenia. It was
kept in the cabin. We had no tin when we left
Kyrenia. We use to fill our lanterns on deck.
The bottle is a large one and would contain
about two
whisky bottles
500 drachms. We bough some petroleum at Rhodes -
we filled up the bottle. We had no other
petroleum
