Tues Feb 2 1915
To day recieved word not to leave Myitkyina
but to hold ourselves in readyness to move at
once if necessary. We were given to day a very
large knive called a Dak. This is something after
the style of a hatchet & used for cutting the
way thorugh the jungle & started to train for
bush work this work is very difficult and
dangerous the company all proceed through the
jungle in single file two on each side as
scouts & cutting there way this is very slow
only proceeding abut 5 miles per day.
Wed Feb 3 1915
To day we went for a bathe in the
River Irrawaddi. I may say that it is
over 20 years since white soldiers have been
seen in this part of the world & any one can
guess the surprise of the Natives to see about
200 white men bathing in the river at
once. The native women started screaming
