Round of Inspections in Goranbury Park the
first by The King then Lord Roberts
just before he went to France and Died there.
Sir Ian Hamilton and a few ordinary
Inspections by our own Generals by this time
were were getting a smart Body of men our
Battalion was over 1000 Strong now all
ready for France or anywhere they should
require us we were back here about 3 Weeks
and then we went to Luton I don't no
whether they marched us have to Spend our
Christmas but we did we came here to do
our field firing course at Dunstable
on the Downs but we also had to do
field Days Night Operations etc Still
Also supply about a Dozen Different Guards
a Day Water Works Bridges Gas Works
Water Towers and General Headquarters Luton
it was have that I first got into Trouble
it happened that we were having an Inspection
on the Luton footbal ground by one of
the Generals and I was very funny all the
morning up to my same old larks waiting
for the Inspection and these Generals do
keep you waiting a While on these jobs
it so happened that it was our company
day for supplying the guards food all
the Light Duty men and Fatigue men used
to be told off to take these Rations
between them as soon as we went on Parade
but our Sergeant forgot all about it
anyway we marched Back to our Street were we
were Billeted and someone reminded the
Sergeant that the Various Guards had not
