My Own Darling Marion,
I was indeed lucky when I
arrived back on the 19th for I found a letter
a parcel from you + a parcel from Kenneth
awaiting me. The letter was lovely + the
parcels were full of good things - just
the very things I wanted. We are now
actually enjoying our eight days rest +
I do not think that we shall have as
rough a time again for the reliefs are
now in working order + for every
sixteen days we get forward we
shall get eight day's rest. Rest is
rather a misleading term for we
work + have inspections &c. It really
means that we are in a comparatively
safe place - practically out of range
of the guns - + we get undisturbed
nights. It gives ones nerves a
chance of becoming normal again
I had a tough day on Wednesday
I started about 9 am + walked
most of the time until 3 pm, looking
at the ground over which we were
to advance. At 7 am I started out
