In mud & through grass which we were
completely covered over by in some place this
grass grew to a full height of 8 & 9 feet
& you could not see a man if he were more
than a few yards in Front. At last we reached
the foot of the hill which I must say was a
very strange sight we could see for miles in
front & you could not find a green leaf or a
blade of grass every thing was burnt black
as if it had been burnt by some great fire
the Tree stumps & earth for miles were all
burnt completely black. After a short rest we
commenced to march back to camp which
we reached covered in Dust & mud about
2-30 half Dead but after a good feed & a
wash we were quite ready for the same again
We had the rest of the day to ourselves but
could not go anywhere as there were no where
to go only at night we would go hear the
band & then to bed to be ready for work
again the next morning.
