Pretty quick was filled with dust but any how

we managed to get it down alirght as we

were so very hungry. After something to eat

we all had to take our bed ticks & fill

them with straw & when night came at last

We laid down in the dust as bad as it were

& slept like tops untill morning.

Fri Mar 12 1915

The First day of Manoevers we rose at 5-30

& then had two hours drill what is called

artillary Formation. That is marching in groups

scattered all over as that Artillery cannot get

the range of all groups at once & you get a

better chance of reaching your object in that way

we then had a good breakfast off Porridge &

Tea & Bread & Butter which went down grand

after Breakfast about 9 o-clock we were told

we were going to attack a hill which we

could see in the distance about 7 miles away

to get to this place was something awful

we marched through swamp up to our knees
