Fri Jan 15th 1915


Friday today we have not had a very heavy

day before Breakfast we have a short run &

After breakfast we had about 3 ½ hours drill

we had the pleasure of finishing for the day

so after dinner we had a good walk into

the jungle for about three hours.   At night we went

to see a company of Gurkhas (about 400) off to the

Chang States which is on the Borders of China to

to help Quell a rising which had started amongst

the Natives & you can bet we gave them a most

Magnificent send off.


Sat Jan 16th 1915


To day  we have had  one of the hardest days

ever since I joined this magnificent Regiment

we had to do what is called Kitchener’s Test

that is to march 15 miles in full marching

order & afterwards to run 1000 yards at the finish

of the March still in full marching order. We

were got out of Bed about 6-15 then we had
