unloading 25 cartridges in 50 seconds. You place 5 each

time in the magazine and each time after taking a

charger out of the pouch, the pouch must be securely

fastened. A charger is a metal clip which holds 5

cartridges & made to slip into the magazine. The

test of loading these 25 Cartridges in 50 seconds

is not as easy as it sounds but I managed to do it

myself 3 times out of four. To day also a Native

school master was brought to the Barracks to give

us lessons in the Hindustani language. It is

rather amusing to hear the men spluttering and

stammering and Kidding themselves they are

talking Hindustani. Why the majority can’t speak

English but of corse there is nothing like

thinking.

Tues Jan 12 1915

To day has been exceptionally hot during

the morning we had lessons in Bayonet

fighting by one of the Gurkha officers

it is one of the most interesting exercises we

have had & everybody enjoyed it very much.
