Wed. Dec. 23rd 1914

To Day the weather was a bit better although

Very dull it managed to keep fine, before

Breakfast we had a short Drill, then had

To turn out at 8-30 for the Route march.

For Guide we had an officer of the Regular

Army, we started of in the Direction of

Maymyo & then entered some very plesent [sic]

Country, we went right into the heart of

The Native part of Burma. It is very

Interesting to see the natives in the small

Huts, they are built entirely of Bamboo

Poles, with grass interlaced they don’t

Possess any chimney the smoke having

To come out of the door way. We also

Came across a tribe of Tree Dwellers. It

Is marvellous how the manage to

Built there huts in the Branches of the

Trees. We marched through some very

plesent [sic] roads & then had to march single

File through a very large jungle which

Took about 2 hours the grass & twiggs
