Were also about 100 Chinese on Board. What
with the smell of the Chinese the unsanitary
conditions of the Lavatory. The stink of the
River & the Hot weather it was simply a
miracal that there were no Fever on Board as
it simply swarmed in flies & moscatoes. We
sailed down the River Hoogla which is a
tributary of the Ganges. The Hoogla is a river of
mud & for miles you seem to be simply
sailing through thick mud. The Feeding
arrangement was a lot worse than the
Descado on this day the Food was without
doubt off for Breakfast we had Dry bread
& Tea & then only had Bread & Gravy I
don’t know how they made the gravy as we
never saw any meat. That night I slept on
the deck in the open air nearly eating to bits
By mosquatoes.
