Sept 10 - 1914
Enlisted in the 4th Border Regiment after Being Medically examined & joined a party of recruits stationed at Kendal. Have we remained for three weeks under the command of Major Rigg assisted by Sergeant Streeter & Harisson.
Oct 6th 1914
Left Kendal to join the Battalion stationed at Sittingborne was placed in C Company under the command of Lieut Chance the whole Battalion under the Command of Colonel Donald. Colonel Donald was transferred to he reserve Battalion at Kendal, Major Haswell taking his place.
Oct 11th 1914
A party of us were taken to Hythe for shooting practice. Here we were under canvas thirteen in a tent. We had to shoot in very unfaverable weather but we all passed the test -
