My Dear boy George

I've been grilling all the afternoon in the brilliant

sunshine on the lawn for the first time this year. Fancy

your old dad able to do this the second Sunday in May.

Yes it's been a glorious day, and it's been a treat to sit out

in the rocking chair and enjoy the peace & quiet of a

sabbath afternoon & banish for a while all thoughts of a

cruel & wicked war, and let fancy run free & picture

once again you boys in various attitudes on a bright

summers days out on the lawn with me the Sunday usual

siesta so often indulged in. Yes, I wish you could join

us once again for it's really very beautiful our surroundings

this spring on the lawn. I think the pessimist ought

to be ashamed now after all their gloomy prophicies

of famine and starvation because of the late winter

and late sowing. As I have written to Stan "Now

God is taking a hand." (and I say it reverently) and the

last fortnight has shown how, ceaselessly He work on through

nature and how marvelously a bright warm sun soon levels

up the arrears so called and shames our lack of faith

"seed time & harvest shall not fail". I should dearly like

you to have a peep at the fruit trees loaded as never before

with blossom - a trim fresh mown lawn, and Elsie & Mother

strolling round and bending with noses close to the ground
