Once on hearing from you so you will get by & by a half
day I should think of reading old letters forwarded to you
Mrs. Martin begged for your whereabouts at Bristol to write
her people to visit you, so if you get strangers inquiring for
you they will be her people possibly. Of course there were
many inquirers this morning after chapel & I had a series
of questions to answer and accept a sort of reflected glory
radiating from Elsie's little tin god ah what! no I mean our
steel proof & tried veteran who in the future will modestly
ruck up his sleeve to hide his gold stripes. Wes waxed
eloquently over the news, and of course also wrote to France
we must tonight give him new address and you must
exchange letters, the old boy appears badly strained, the Drs
have examined him carefully again and say he must still
have a long rest and with care in the end get right again
the elder one of the two says he talked to him like a father
telling him he was a big fellow and had had a hard strain
and done his bit, so perhaps after another good spell he
will get a discharge from active service.
By now I expect Stan has left the signalling school
& is back with his Battalion and beginning to think
his turn on their particular bit of the front is again on.
Did you get the news that we believe Jack is safe in
Africa? A lady nurse from Wesley's hospital at Birmingham
travelled in the same boat & cabled "safe through" so
if correct we hope soon to get written news from him
