period when work + reports demanded

out attention. Day is the time for sleep really

+ night the time for work; as the days last so

long we have to put in a little of each. The

CO was asking how you + Kenneth faced

this morning. Ta for the letter I received last

night written on the 6th. You were wondering

what I was doing when you were counting. I

was checking over distribution of men in the

posts we were taking over + seeing that I had

completed  all arrangements for moving. Then about

the time you would finish I sat down to tea

+ to rest. It was a worried day here too.

Yes there is plenty of dust, but we do not

mind it very much. - much better to sleep

in a dusty trench than in a muddy one.

Glad you had a good time at the play &

also at Ripon. Eleven in the car would be

some load. Must write to Lucy about

that chin. Lills butter will be a very

change. Ta for the cutting from Gazette

I had not seen it. Yes I was hard
