by artificial ones. We disembarked at
Alexandria, and got to Cairo by train a
distance of 180 miles inland. From Cairo
we had a short run to Heliopolis where
we detrained. We marched from the station
to the camp, where the tents were pitched and
ready for us. On our train journey we
passed through lovely green cultivated
country, and several small towns.
The majority of the houses belonging to thefarming class were built of mud. Just small
cabins, where you would hardly think a
goat would live. I have been in
Heliopolis very often, as it is almost by
the side of our camp. It is a lovely
little city, built on the edge of the desert.
It has beautiful buildings and one ofthe hotels is supposed to have been the largest
in the world, but it has been turned into
a military hospital. There is a very good
