Heliopolis to Cairo, a distance of twelve miles

from one piastre first class (equal to 2 1/2) and

in the first class. I visited Cairo a few

times but don't care much for it. It has

very old houses which are very dirty looking.
But there are lots of fine buildings all

the same, of course they are the newer ones.

I have seen the river Nile also the Pyramids

of Gizah and the Sphinx. There is not

much to be seen, but as I often read about

them, I thought I would  go and see what

they were like.
We are having pretty hard training

here now every day, and as the place is

all sand it makes it much harder.
Sometimes we leave camp during the day

and march out into the desert. Then we

dig trenches, and stay there as if we expected

an enemy all night and then return to camp

next day.        We get a half day on Saturdays

and all day on Sundays. So you see we

have some days to ourselves. The days

are very warm, but the nights turn

awfully cold. I suppose the weather

is rather cold at home now.
I think we won't be much longer in
