press letters appearing against it! Elsie has had two

letters along this week from Jack both held up for more

than a week, and both opened by the W.O. censors

so they are striving to prevent any leakage of information

as to actual date of sailing, anyhow by now, he is a

long way toward his destination and we hope for him

a safe arrival. News of "Narobi" comes from a

good many quarters and they all speak well of the place

Mr Carter has a friend out there and others at  Durban

where they expect to touch, maybe land and journey by

rail to final destination. She, Elsie says today, only

a fortnight, gone out of the three years so she is counting

the time, poor girl. Frank Davy & Fred have both written

Frank says its a very trying country, and hard work, he has

had rheumatism badly in his knees - Fred at the canteen

would it be a wet or dry one think you? I can fancy Fred

having an order "2 pots of old fourpenny chummy" hurry

up cockie" - a new experience eh, but life has many such

before it ends. What did you think of the aeroplane

dropping the bombs on our port again. Elsie was the only one

who heared them, & awoke us but I laid snug and did not

trouble - One was dropped in Highbury Fields, and one in

Eden Grove Holloway - opposite the old shop 'an another in

Green Lanes Newington Green that done mischief. The Huns

are skilled players at "tip & run" both on sea & in the air
