Explode with a very thick Black Smoke
and a very Destructive Shell if you
were near enough to them when they Burst
well our Section about 9 of us had just
got settled down in our Billet in Houses
this time 9 in a room and being as it was
getting Fine Weather now Late in May and
it was Tea time we were all sitting ouside
of our house and we had just got our
Letters up First for about 2 or 3 Weeks
and a few Parcels of Food sent from home
and we were just settling down to Enjoy
a nice tea when a big shell burst in
a Garden close by but done no damage
but we all had a Laugh at the way the
People run about Excited in the Street
when the next one dropped right in
front of us cause we all went Flat when
we heard it coming and when the smoke
cleared I got up allright and my chums
well 3 others who were with me Laid
there I said come on get up I thought
they were shaming but when I turne done
Fellow over he started Groaning then I
realized they had been hit I dragged him
there and undone his tunic to see where
he was hit but could see no mark but
he was unconsous so while one man went
to fetch the Doctor I dragged the other
two into the House and then discovered
that the First one was Dead just Breathed
his Last and he had that Lovely smile
of Death on his Face which I had so
