Doll Broken well soon got him sowed up
and buried the Back of our Barn his
Mother sent as a Chaple Magazine with
a Fire Plate of him. After another 4 Days
in the line we moved of Back for a
Rest to a Place called Oblingham where
we had another Pay Day and had a sample
of French Wine and some Bread by way of
a change and a Bath in the Mines Hare
and a change of clothing which out French

the Line
Battle of Festabert
Whilst we were here we had order to proceed
to the Line again on the same Sector as
we came out of up again to our old Billet
we had come out of another 8 Days 4 in
the Line and 4 out while we were up here we
had a very tiresome job this happened the
night before the Battle which was on May 9th
we had to carry all the Amunition and
scaling Ladders for the over the top and I
think we done a very silly thing as we had
to carry the Ladders up the Line most
Part of the way in Daylight and we had to
make about 3 Trips but we did not have
to go over the Top in the morning we were
only in reserve anyway the silly thing we
Done was to let the Germans see what we
were up to by carrying the Ladder up in
