there were a Variety of Vegetables and
we made good use of them making soup
and Stew as we were served out with
Soup Powder and Bully and Biscuits still
never see a bit of bread while we were at
here 4 of our Fillow creeped out into
No Mans Land and started burying the
Dead also the cows as the Stench
was terrible which was coming from them
and the sun was beginning to Shine a
bit Powerful now Late in aprill a
it was Freezing cold at Night and we
found the Rum which was Suffice very
Warming Providing you never had Too
much and it was very handy here to get
water as well as there was a Pump in
one of the old Farm Houses where we got the
Wood so taking things all round we had
every convenience Veg Wood and Water
and not much risk getting it and it
seemed to be all we done here was making
tea and Soup and sitting round the
Fire a long way to go along the line before
you went to another Port where Everything
was so Handy as some Parts you would
have to walk about 3 mile for your Water
and Vegetables would be an unheard of
Luxury we were sitting round the Fire
one day and we lost a Fire ...
