But it was not in the billet were I got my fun

it was in the village I incidentally was the fool

of the Battalion I think every Battalion had

at least one fool and I was ours I used to

borrow different make ups one day I borrowed

a Clergymans outfit and went to the village

chapel which served as a Billet for 20 men

but the Pulpit and Books were all there as

on Sundays when the villagers went to chapel

our men had to clear out so I made up as a

Clergyman or Parson as you might call me and

I went to the Chapel one morning when we

were not on Digging owing to a rather wet

day and I went straight to the Pulpit

and one of the soldiers I ask to play the

Organ which was a small one as they did

not no who I was I had such a good make

up with a false Charley Chaplin moustache so I

read the Lessons and then suggested

an Hymn which they all joined the

Hymn I suggested was Ho where is my Boy

Tonight after a Little Preaching

Something I made up myself about the

Twinkling of a Little Bell and Banged

my Entrenching Tool Handle as the Bell

then someone rumbled Who it was

didnt I have to fly out of that chapel

it was days before they could forget

that Little Escapade but that was

only one of my larks well we were very

soon to leave here and go back to

St Albans again about the First Week

in November 1914 We got back there

and from the next fortnight it was one long
