My Own Darling Marion,

       I didn't get a chance to write

yesterday as I was out on a joy ride. Hooper

Payne, Badley, Dr, Coulson + I went. I had

breakfast at 5:45 then a run across

county on Sally to catch a motor lorry.

About 40 miles in that & we got to our

destination. We passed through where

we had our first tour in the trenches

when we first came out. The trenches

looked somewhat different all fallen

in & the grass growing quickly has

partly hidden the numerous shell

holes - still the place looks a wilderness.

It was strange to see people working

in the fields - the first cow almost

drew a cheer & altogether the journey

was very interesting. Imagine what

some of us thought when we

saw the first woman (she was very

old) but we passed a pretty

"flapper" a mile farther on. I think
