My Own Darling Wife,
It was good to receive
your letter of the 31st met when I got
back from my tramp round our new
location last night. Sorry I only got
a card off to you. I shall be sorry to leave
my wood to-night and for the next
few days or so I shall be living in
a trench where it is as well to keep
out of sight during the daylight. We shall
be in the old game again of sleeping by
day & keeping awake at night.
No, I don't think there is much
chance of my getting away on a course
although I am not so short of officers
now as when I was reduced to one
other than myself, none of them have
had much experience. They are good
fellows but all a bit "shell shy" & I
