I had a letter from Wendel & he seems

to be going along all right. We went

off to support a "stunt" the other 

night & dug ourselves in under a

bank to give the Boche less chance

of hitting us. It was a bit wet &

very cold so that one was tempted

to walk about & get warm in spite

of the extra risk. You see a shell

mostly whistles to let one know that 

it is arriving. We got back safely

to our cellar about 6 am the next

morning - as the supports were not

used. Had hot porridge & tea &

turned in until breakfast at

12:30. I was somewhat tired when

I got back as I had spent the

morning walking & looking over the

ground & there was of course no

chance of sleep during the night. 

We expected to take over some

trenches last night, but instead
