Somewhere
My Own Darling Wife,
I scribbled a note last night
& have just read the one I before it. To
continue. We moved from our wood & stables
to a ruined village & found that we were
to spend the night in the ruins of a large
stable - racing stables they looked like.
They were so bust up that there was
no shelter from either wind or rain.
However we quickly got up a quantity
of small shelters & were hoping to settle
for the night when orders came for us
to go out on a working party. We
moved off at 7 pm & returned at 6 am. The
orderlies had hot porrage ready for us
& after that we turned in for the day. It
had rained most of the night & I am
afraid very few of us really slept.
I had about a couple of hours all
told but got another about 4 pm. At
7 pm we moved off for the same
work again. Sand, rain, snow &
mud made things really pleasant
& I don't think I was in a very good
temper when I got back at 6 am.
I was GC works & a lot of the men
