news had gone on in front of us that
we had been sunk in the Mediteranian
Sea there were great Rejoicings at our
safe arrival
Nov 13 1914
To Day we went on shore to Port Suez
& Port Tewfiq we had a most enjoyable
Day but could not stand the place as it
stunk something awful. The natives here
are a very poor lot most exceptionaly thin
& weak looking. The shops & bazaars are
a very poor & dirty lot. When we had to
Return thesheSea was to rough so had
to stay on shore all night. Could not
get anything to eat at first but
afterwards managed to get a cake a tin
of sardines & washed it down with oranges.
The cake is just like elastic. Afterwards we
managed to get to sleep in a monastery
The monks were very kind to us &
made us as comfortable as possible -
