Oct 15th 1914
Returned to Sittingborne the 4th Border were under orders to sail for India to take up garrison duty in place of troops sent to the front. 

Oct 22nd 1914
Returned from leave after having 4 days at home previous to going to India. Had a most magnificent send off from Carlisle arrived at Sittingborne 6 A-M Oct 23rd 1914

Oct 29th 1914
Left Sittingborne for Southampton and sailed in SS Deseado. The sleeping accomodation on board was not what could be expected for men. The size of the place measured 35 yds by 10 yards and 1 ft high. In this space there were 2 large hatches, 13 tables + 26 forms & Lavatory. 270 men were packed in this small space. The only ventilation being 13 portholes which measured 1 ft across. The food supplied to each man was as follows.
