REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE ACT, 1918.

You are about to be registered as a Parliamentary elector

for the constituency and for the qualifying address mentioned

on the other side in the first Register of Electors under

the above Act. Your name will be included in the list of

Absent Voters. Absent Voters will ordinarily record their

votes by post on ballot papers which will be sent to the at

the time of an election ; but an absent voter, who, in con-

nection with the war, is serving or about to serve afloat or

in any area on land abroad in which voting by proxy is

permitted, or who is a merchant seaman, pilot or fisherman,

is entitled to appoint a proxy to vote for him.

The areas on land abroad in wich proxy voting is per-

mitted include all areas outside the British Islands except

France and Belgium. If you are serving or about to serve

either afloat or in any country abroad except France or

Belgium and desire to appoint a proxy, you are recom-

mended to make the appointment without delay. A form

for the purpose, together with instructions, can be obtained

by a man in the Forces from his ship, establishment, or

O.C. unit ; in the case of merchant seamen, from the British

Consulate at the principal ports abroad ; or in the case of

persons engared on recognised war work through the body

or association under which they are serving. Forms can

also be obtained from the Registration Officers.

Other absent voters, including naval or military voters

who are serving in the British Islands or in France or

Belgium, are not entitled to appoint proxies, but, on an

election occurring, ballot papers will be sent by post to them

addressed to the ships or units in which they are recorded

as serving, or in the case of persons not in the Forces, to the

address recoded by the Registration Officer. Every effort

will be made by the postal authorities to secure that the

ballot papers shall reach the voters in time to enable them

to record their votes and return them so as to reach the

Returning Officer before the time at wich the votes are to

be counted. Instructions as to voting will accompany the

ballot papers. If, having appointed a proxy, you are sub-

sequently transferred to the United Kingdom or to France

or Belgium, and wish to vote by post, you must cancel the

appointment of your proxy by filling up a form which you

can obtain for the purpose from the Registration Officer

whose name and address are given overleaf.

In any communication to the Registration Officer please

quote the constituency, the polling district letter and

the qualifying address shown overleaf.

This card should be retained by you.
