Dear George,
We were glad to know by your
letter to Elsie this morning that the
bit of shrapnel was about to be removed
from your back & hope by this time it
has been successfully done & that you
are getting free from pain. I expect the
wound will soon heal up again & you
will then be up & about. Thanks for the
Railway Voucher, we hope to use it in
a day or two, Wednesday or Thursday
Dad is hurrying up the order so that he
may feel more free to spare time. He
wanted Elsie & I to fix up & go tomorrow
Sunday, then he will come later on when
you can be out in the ground as he says
you can shout at him better then, than
in a room or ward with so many others.
He has been extra deaf again lately
left side
posted a Pcl today with your buttons
& a few smokes. Looking for your buttons
I found an old pipe you sent home -
Do you want it, if so I will bring it
a few feathers?? also the comb,
and anything else you would like if you
let us know by Tuesday. I am posting
this today Sat. so that you shall get
it Monday. Miss Churnfield, Mrs. Brown & Elsie
& the Whitsons' wish to be kindly remembered
to you.
Elsie & I were going out to buy new hats for tomorrow
but it has come over very stormy &
looks like heavy rain so must still wear
old clothes (war time) -
Am glad the head bandage is off and the hair
getting to look more natural, there will be
more chance of us knowing you.
Best love and every good wish.
from loving Mother.
Dad says you had better tell Wes the details of
your Medical Card. For possibly he wants to
tell us all about your wounds, & the
treatment etc. It may be kindness not
blood lust as you suggest. He is R. A. M. C.
you know.
