  My Own Darling Wife

                  Ta very much for

  your two letters dated 15th + 17th

  and also for the excellent parcel

  received to-night. The parcel

  has come just right for we

  were short of cake + said at

  tea time that we hoped one of

  us would get a parcel. I was the

  lucky one. That potted meat you

  send is A1. We do get well

  fed but the goods from home

  make excellent changes. The

  night you wrote the first letter

  I was in a wee hole under a

  bank , cold, pretty wet + jumping

  when the shells came. Whilst

  you were writing the second I

  was having a hot bath + getting

  my clothes off for the first time

  since the 23rd. Not even had a
