  row was tremendous. I lay on a ridge

  in the pouring rain- shells bursting around

  + bullets whistling just above us. You can

  guess how small I made myself. I was

  very thankful when that days work ended.

  The game was very exciting + one did

  not realise the danger until

  afterwards + then of course it couldn't 

  worry one.

             There is no sign yet of that
  

  work, clean clothes + a rest but we

  are all fit + I  guess we shall

  enjoy the things better for working longer.

  ... is away on a course, Having got

  a slight shrapnel wound in his forehead

  + had left us for a time. The C.O. is better

  but not really fit as yet. If we get

  some warm weather soon it will

  be very welcome- it is too cold at

  night in the open at present.

            I hope you will have a good
  

  time when you get to Grant ... . Please
