The hedges here are not

fully in leaf but one can

almost see the leaves growing

so quickly is the sun bringing

them out. Tell Nia we are

doing our best but there is

such a lot to do and it is

impossible to get on without

doing all the work thoroughly.

     Yes you must keep smiling

Lassie. I try to do so. I am

up again now and am

all by my lonesome. Bird has

gone on a course and my

one remaining officer I have

in a post about a quarter

of an hour's walk away. There

is a kind of lull in this

post of the line + so it

appears to be fairly peaceful

for a few days. Of course

there are a few more dangers

than there are at home but

right page

as the Boche has not yet

exhausted all his shells that

is only to be expected. We had

one coldish day and the

weather has not got quite so

warm again - still it is very

nice. It will be lovely to

get home to you again for

a talk, a love + a romp

with Kenneth + well heaps

of other things besides. I have

got a new kind of home now

My bed consists of a more or less

flat piece of ground raised

about a foot from the floor of

a quarry. At least it is hardly

a quarry, more like a bite

out of the side of a chalk bank

There is a roof made of corrugated

iron + tarpaulin (mixed) - a side

of the same mixture + a door

composed of a blanket. I have

a stove also which I can burn
