  a dirty looking crowd, but we have got

  fairly smart again now. All the officers

  are in a big hut here. We have seven

  in one part divided by a canvas screen

  from another part where the rest sleep

  & at the other end is a mess room.  My

  bed is a separate affair - the usual

  wire netting thing which is very comfy

  Some of the beds are made in sets of

  four or six on one frame, but we have

  no double deckers. We have had a few

  strange experiences but little danger as

  we are in part of the long front from

  which the Boche The German Army has  retired. I expect you

  know more about that than we do for

  we rely on the newspapers information

  except for our own immediate district

  Events appear to be very strange & very

  interesting but I guess we'll know

  what the Boche means in the course

  of the next few weeks. He is not much
