the Trench or Trenches. When we had finished

this every man was just about done and

completly bathed in sweat & as usual not

sorry to get back to Camp which we reached

about 1-30 then of course during the afternoon

we had our usual bath after which we were

new men again. Tea as usual 4-30 Listened to

the band for an hour & then to our Virtuous

couch.

To Day I think we had one of the Dirtyest

& Rottenest jobs that ever I had tackled &

that was we had to dig trenches supposing

to fortifie the camp. Well the place which

was chosen for C Company was close beside

a stream & looked fine to look at but when

we had taken the top crust off it was just

like a swamp underneath. We we up to our
