To day we had a very heavy day getting

ready for going back to Maymyo on Sunday.

we were very busy packing up and takeing

part of the things to the station. On one of

these trips we came across a native funeral.

This was one of the most interesting sights I

have seen since I came to Burma or rather

this was just inside the Borders of China.

The First in the procession comes a man

dressed up in all Kinds of Fantastic clothes & all

all the way he is doing a kind of war dance

The Follow natives ringing a kind of Bell &

uttering very mournful sounds. Then comes the

coffin in which in this case was the body of

a young woman, the top of the coffin is always

left open so it is quite easy to see what is

inside. The coffin is simply plane wood and

covered all over with fancy paper, something

after the style we trim up every Christmas

at home. Behind the coffin comes the chief

morner in  this case an old woman The
